The Global Nursing Research Center (GNRC), The University of Tokyo, Japan, is plesased to announce a special course by Project professor Karis Kin-fong Cheng of The University of Tokyo. The course entitled "Excellence in Academic Writing" will be held from 11:30 to 13:00 (Japan Standard Time). Attendance is free of charge, and everyone is welcome. Pre-registration is required. About this course The aim of this course is to empower graduate research students and young faculty to succeed in academic writing in English for journals and beyond. This four-session course (1.5 hours each) will provide students and faculty with the opportunity of critically understanding the processes and elements involved in academic writing, and of acquiring good academic writing skills. Topics include writing and publishing about science for journals and beyond, developing criticality through writing, and ethical issues in scientific publication.
Session 1：Key principles of good academic writing for journals and beyond
Session 2：Tricks for writing critically and effectively
Session 3：Putting ideas and arguments together, textual organization and cohesion.
Session 4：Using sources in academic writing, identifying and preventing plagiarism, effective paraphrasing and summarising strategies
