Mana Shirouchi
In March 2018, I completed the Master’s Program in the Department of Community Health Nursing (Public Health Nursing educational course), the Graduate School of Medicine, The University of Tokyo. From April 2018, I worked as a public health nurse in Ibaraki Prefecture. In April 2021, I returned to the doctoral program in the Department of Community Health Nursing/Public Health Nursing at the same graduate university, and obtained my Ph.D. in Health Sciences in March 2024. After serving as a Post-doctoral Researcher at GNRC from April 2024, I was appointed Assistant Professor in the Department of Community Health Nursing/Public Health Nursing, Division of Health Sciences & Nursing, Graduate School of Medicine, The University of Tokyo, in April 2025.
Research conducted at GNRC
[Department Project: Zero Missed Diagnoses of Infant Hip Dislocation]
Early and accurate detection and prevention of developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH) in infants is crucial for ensuring lifelong mobility. The department implements regionally rooted projects focusing on maternal and child health, grounded in medicine, engineering, and nursing. As part of this initiative, I contributed to educational efforts that enable nurses to perform ultrasound examinations of infants’ hips during home visits.
[My Research: Home-Visiting Nurses Supporting COVID-19 Patients in Home Care]
Drawing on my experience as a public health nurse engaged in infectious disease control at the municipal level, I conducted interviews with home-visiting nurses who supported COVID-19 patients during home isolation as part of my doctoral research. While affiliated with GNRC, I had the opportunity to develop this study into a paper and share it with an international audience.
