There were 83 participants. In Lecture 1 titled “The characteristics of elderly abuse in Japan: multifactorial issue in families”, which was a recorded video lecture, Prof. Emiko Kishi talked about the family background of elderly abuse.
She shared some cases explaining how the phenomena of intergenerational chain of abuse from DV and child abuse leading to elderly abuse occur and specific approach to meet the challenge.
In Lecture 2 titled ”Elderly abuse and neglect at home and care facilities”, Dr. Wenche Karin Malmedal discussed the elderly abused occurring at home and care facilities in Norway and its family background based on her research she has conducted in Norway.
Lectures were followed by a discussion on what kind of support or system are needed to prevent the occurrence and aggravation of elderly abuse among high-risk families (where power relationship or history of violence exist) especially at this moment when there is a risk of increased in-home violence due to COVID-19.
